Field Trips and Events
MAGE has over 10 field trips per year to museums, factories, beaches, forests, art galleries, concerts, plays, and so much more, during school.
MAGE also has a number of project based learning opportunities such as the Toy and Game fair, before which students design their own toy and game, then come together to play it.
Each department sponsors it’s own fair, from the Spring Art Show sponsored by the Fine Arts department, to music concerts, plays, Field Day, and Business Fair.
Our field trips and events are our most ambitious enrichment program! Stand on the bottom of what used to be a Silurian Ocean 450 Million Years Ago! Learn all about native and invasive species in our area! Learn about the current ecology and the geographical history of Illinois and Chicago. Participate in a Great Lakes Action Day! Learn how to perform field observations and experiments! Find evidence of dinosaurs in the surrounding flora!
This programming combines field experience with classroom learning, as well as hands-on experiments, and educational speakers. Students collect field data and conduct research, participate in internships, and learn about things like the local ecology, geography, and environmental science of our metro area. When we return from the field, we analyze data, we write lab reports, we reflect on what we found. Some of this programming is rooted in outdoor education, and students learn foraging, wilderness survival skills, how to identify native plants and animals.
